Curated by the Queertech.io artist collective and Midsumma Festival\, works selected will be premiered online via exhibition on the queertech.io website and offline at a special screening at ACMI\, Federation Square. \nNow more than ever\, queer voices are vital to a continued socio-political discourse surrounding representation in a digital landscape. Queertech.io showcases a broad cross-section of the innovative\, poignant and queer-as-hell works emerging from diverse queer communities. Disabled voices\, like queer voices\, are marginalised\, and queer disabled voices even more. Disabled artists are often overlooked in major landmark presentations and the discourse around accessibility of queer led events needs to be brought to the forefront. The queer community has many disabled members\, some who have historically felt left out of Midsumma Festival events. This project highlights these artists with an online and physical show giving queer artists with a disability the opportunity to shine in a keynote Midsumma Festival presentation at ACMI. \nThis project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts\, its arts funding and advisory body. \n

Using all of the lawful and chaotic good tools available\, how do you create a balanced party and slay the Beasts of Bias; racism\, sexism and queerphobia? Can it be done? Venture together with me into the seedier side of AI as we band together to fight algorithmic injustice and create a better world. This is a dungeons and dragons themed talk about AI and ethics. I will talk about the key issues facing AI and AI engineers and what we need to do to create better\, more equitable AI for all. DESCRIPTION:Australia’s oldest running projection festival returns in July 2021 to present Past\, Presents\, Futures. My work Set in Stone has evolved as a large scale projection video work showing the evolution of the neural network through its disruption of gender bias into a series of nested mosaics. \nGSPF 2021 curatorial rationale is the vision of Jacob Tolo and hits fast forward to 500 years from here\, asking artists for speculative visions far beyond the now and considers the importance of constructs such as colour\, race\, gender\, sexuality\, age\, ability\, class and nationality. People and our environments are the impetus for project responses. How are they manifested in your future? What have you managed to take with you and what have you left behind in this new utopia? Or has it all gone to hell and you want to warn us all of Skynet!?

The exhibition features a curated selection of unique works created using Playform AI by artists Chellcy Reitsma\, Domenico Barra\, J. Rosenbaum\, Martin Lukas Ostachowski\, Noortje Stortelder\, Roxy Savage\, and Seda Turec. \n“Sending You My Love” asks what love might look like during an era of virtual connection. Throughout the course of the global pandemic\, humans adapted to a new normal\, where love and the expressions of it were required to change. The seven featured artists explore what this type of love looks like through photography\, digital manipulation and video work. “This exhibition demonstrates both the complexities and capabilities of human connection\,” said contributing curator Mirabelle Alan\, “and the ways in which technology has become an integral to expressions of love has perhaps shifted how we view the digital world.”

The exhibition features a curated selection of unique works created using Playform AI by artists Chellcy Reitsma\, Domenico Barra\, J. Rosenbaum\, Martin Lukas Ostachowski\, Noortje Stortelder\, Roxy Savage\, and Seda Turec. \n“Sending You My Love” asks what love might look like during an era of virtual connection. Throughout the course of the global pandemic\, humans adapted to a new normal\, where love and the expressions of it were required to change. The seven featured artists explore what this type of love looks like through photography\, digital manipulation and video work. “This exhibition demonstrates both the complexities and capabilities of human connection\,” said contributing curator Mirabelle Alan\, “and the ways in which technology has become an integral to expressions of love has perhaps shifted how we view the digital world.”

DESCRIPTION:I am delighted to announce that have some artwork in RMIT Gallery’s inaugural online exhibition  The new (ab)normal\, exploring isolation in conjunction with neural networks and landscapes.\nThese AI artworks have been made working with image translation neural networks online through playform.io. These images are somewhat poignantly resonating with my feelings during isolation. It’s hard to focus and online diversions such as this have been helping\, tangentially related to my work and yet new and unusual at the same time. The works are made by drawing and having the neural network generate a landscape from the sketch. \nRMIT Gallery’s inaugural online exhibition  The new (ab)normal  provides a real-time snapshot of how artists are responding to their new working conditions and circumstances during the COVID-19 global health crisis. \nJoin us to see the exhibition unfold. The online exhibition will go live on the RMIT Gallery website on 18 June 2020.\nCurated by Helen Rayment\, RMIT Galleries Curator\, and Dr Tammy Wong Hulbert\, Lecturer of Arts Management (specialising in curating)\, the exhibition is presented in partnership with RMIT’s School of Art with creative responses from more than 40 School of Art staff\, HDR students\, and industry partners. \nThe project honours the value of the work of those who teach and study at RMIT at this time of deep disruption. DESCRIPTION:Enter the Uncanny Valley\, an unnerving place\, a place to explore computer generated people\, to transplant their faces onto your own and see humanity and the posthuman surrealism of snapchat through a computer’s eyes. Works generated by AI\, added to your face using AI to turn you into a computer human hybrid. \nJ Rosenbaum has trained their computer on tens of thousands of snapchat selfies and trained their computer to make its own. A surreal landscape grid of generated partially human faces. You are then given the opportunity to use snapchat to put the images back onto your own face and become part of the artwork\, share\, pose with friends and share the creepy\, cool and sometimes hilarious results. \nJ. Rosenbaum is a contemporary figurative artist working in 3D modeling\, artificial intelligence and artificial intelligence and exploring the intersection of technology and art. Their most recent work has been in exploring the nature of Non Binary transness and their own genders and sexuality. In 2019 they are continuing their research into computer perceptions of gender with their PhD at RMIT.

DESCRIPTION:What does gender look like when created by a machine? When given idealized figures from Greek and Roman statues how does a machine interpret them\, create its own? And how does an artist respond to that? These works are a collaboration between human and computer\, to create art where gender shifts and transforms\, where what we see on the surface is only skin deep. \nThis exhibition is interactive\, with an Augmented Reality application that can be downloaded at www.hiddenworlds.ml to transform the works on the wall. DESCRIPTION:Enter the Uncanny Valley\, an unnerving place\, a place to explore computer generated people\, to transplant their faces onto your own and see humanity and the posthuman surrealism of snapchat through a computer’s eyes. Works generated by AI\, added to your face using AI to turn you into a computer human hybrid. \nJ Rosenbaum has trained their computer on tens of thousands of snapchat selfies and trained their computer to make its own. A surreal landscape grid of generated partially human faces. You are then given the opportunity to use snapchat to put the images back onto your own face and become part of the artwork\, share\, pose with friends and share the creepy\, cool and sometimes hilarious results. \nJ. Rosenbaum is a contemporary figurative artist working in 3D modeling\, artificial intelligence and artificial intelligence and exploring the intersection of technology and art. Their most recent work has been in exploring the nature of Non Binary transness and their own genders and sexuality. In 2019 they are continuing their research into computer perceptions of gender with their PhD at RMIT.
