SUMMARY:Sending you my Love
DESCRIPTION:“Sending You My Love” features a curated selection of unique works created using Playform AI by artists Chellcy Reitsma\, Domenico Barra\, J. Rosenbaum\, Martin Lukas Ostachowski\, Noortje Stortelder\, Roxy Savage\, and Seda Turec. Curated by Playform Studio.\n\n\n\nPress Release\n\n\n\nNew York – February 14\, 2020 – Playform Studio\, an exclusive studio for artists\, debuts “Sending You My Love\,” on Artsy today. The exhibition features a curated selection of unique works created using Playform AI by artists Chellcy Reitsma\, Domenico Barra\, J. Rosenbaum\, Martin Lukas Ostachowski\, Noortje Stortelder\, Roxy Savage\, and Seda Turec. \n“Sending You My Love” asks what love might look like during an era of virtual connection. Throughout the course of the global pandemic\, humans adapted to a new normal\, where love and the expressions of it were required to change. The seven featured artists explore what this type of love looks like through photography\, digital manipulation and video work. “This exhibition demonstrates both the complexities and capabilities of human connection\,” said contributing curator Mirabelle Alan\, “and the ways in which technology has become an integral to expressions of love has perhaps shifted how we view the digital world.”

SUMMARY:Melbourne fringe: Frankenstein's Telephone
DESCRIPTION:Frankenstein’s telephone is coming to Melbourne Fringe festival 2020 as a Pants Off event! \nExplore connected AI algorithms online and make bizarre artworks and watch the chain of events unfold as each AI goes on to interpret each other’s mistakes. \nMelbourne AI artist J. Rosenbaum has made an interactive website to explore artificial intelligence art generated by this chain of AI and make your own using photographs or text inputs to create AI magic. The results are unpredictable\, unsettling and unbelievably weird.

SUMMARY:Frankenstein's Telephone - online AI art interactive exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Thanks to a generous contribution from the City of Melbourne and their covid19 relief grant program I am proud to announce that I will be making Frankenstein’s Telephone\, previously seen at Future Histories for Midsumma 2020\, an online AI art exhibition. This includes going through the works I have created during my research into computer perceptions of gender but also an interactive experience where you can generate your own chain of events and see how different Artificial Intelligence algorithms interpret your words and create something based on them. \nThe project is now available on http://www.frankensteinstelephone.com

SUMMARY:The new (ab)normal
DESCRIPTION:I am delighted to announce that have some artwork in RMIT Gallery’s inaugural online exhibition  The new (ab)normal\, exploring isolation in conjunction with neural networks and landscapes.\nThese AI artworks have been made working with image translation neural networks online through playform.io. These images are somewhat poignantly resonating with my feelings during isolation. It’s hard to focus and online diversions such as this have been helping\, tangentially related to my work and yet new and unusual at the same time. The works are made by drawing and having the neural network generate a landscape from the sketch. \nRMIT Gallery’s inaugural online exhibition  The new (ab)normal  provides a real-time snapshot of how artists are responding to their new working conditions and circumstances during the COVID-19 global health crisis. \nJoin us to see the exhibition unfold. The online exhibition will go live on the RMIT Gallery website on 18 June 2020.\nCurated by Helen Rayment\, RMIT Galleries Curator\, and Dr Tammy Wong Hulbert\, Lecturer of Arts Management (specialising in curating)\, the exhibition is presented in partnership with RMIT’s School of Art with creative responses from more than 40 School of Art staff\, HDR students\, and industry partners. \nThe project honours the value of the work of those who teach and study at RMIT at this time of deep disruption. They have been invited to contribute both written and visual artworks reflecting the impact of their locked down experience. \nWhat does the life of an artist look like at this time; is work created at home\, or is there still access to a studio?  Are there children to educate too? What does an ordinary day look like in this new territory? \nThese creative responses reflect the reality of this period\, giving us an insight into the personal\, emotional and transformative.\nThe new (ab)normal provides us with a timely insight into how art can unite us\, and that although we may be physically distant\, our social connections remain strong and are perhaps even strengthened under these challenging circumstances. \nArtists including: Sogan Alamdarfard\, Rushdi Anwar\, Robert Baines\, Sofi Basseghi\, Kay Mei Ling Beadman\, Alison Bennett\, Pie Bolton\, Susan Buchanan\, S. Chandrasekaran\, Christy Chow\, Kris Coad\, Jennifer Conroy-Smith\, Simon Crosbie\, Mig Dann\, Rhett D’Costa\, Phil Edwards\, Yiannis Galanopoulos\, Yue Gu\, Andrew Gunnell\, Guang Hui Huang\, Pennie Jagiello\, Priyanka Jain\, Tassia Joannides\, Varuni Kanagasundaram\, Martin Kay\, Lan Lan\, Kit Man Leong\, Ye Liu\, Peng Liu\, Daniel Marks\, Christine McFetridge\, Jerome De Perlinghi\, Robyn Phelan\, Milenko Prvacki\, Marlaina Read\, Steven Rendall\, J. SUMMARY:Uncanny Valley
DESCRIPTION:Enter the Uncanny Valley\, an unnerving place\, a place to explore computer generated people\, to transplant their faces onto your own and see humanity and the posthuman surrealism of snapchat through a computer’s eyes. Works generated by AI\, added to your face using AI to turn you into a computer human hybrid. \nJ Rosenbaum has trained their computer on tens of thousands of snapchat selfies and trained their computer to make its own. A surreal landscape grid of generated partially human faces. You are then given the opportunity to use snapchat to put the images back onto your own face and become part of the artwork\, share\, pose with friends and share the creepy\, cool and sometimes hilarious results. \nJ. Rosenbaum is a contemporary figurative artist working in 3D modeling\, artificial intelligence and artificial intelligence and exploring the intersection of technology and art. Their most recent work has been in exploring the nature of Non Binary transness and their own genders and sexuality. In 2019 they are continuing their research into computer perceptions of gender with their PhD at RMIT.

SUMMARY:Knox Immerse 2019: Hidden Worlds
DESCRIPTION:What does gender look like when created by a machine? When given idealized figures from Greek and Roman statues how does a machine interpret them\, create its own? And how does an artist respond to that? These works are a collaboration between human and computer\, to create art where gender shifts and transforms\, where what we see on the surface is only skin deep. \nThis exhibition is interactive\, with an Augmented Reality application that can be downloaded at www.hiddenworlds.ml to transform the works on the wall. It incorporates sound\, narrative\, drawing and 3D modeling to create a unique display exploring gender beyond the binary and deep inside the world of computer vision. \nFor further information please visit Hidden Worlds

SUMMARY:Body of Knowledge
DESCRIPTION:Can computers see gender? Without being trained in traditional binary notions of gender what can they produce? And how do we interpret the results? J. Rosenbaum presents a paper on their project Hidden Worlds\, an exhibition of Artificial Intelligence Computer Generated artworks and mobile Augmented Reality technologies to see gender through the lens of computer vision. Rosenbaum’s last works used AI to interpret their creations\, this time the computer creates the art and Rosenbaum interprets the output. A Generative Adversarial Network that has been trained in thousands of images of Greek and Roman statuary worked for weeks to create its own. Rosenbaum then explored the output to find the truth inside the computer generated work and reveal that to the viewer. Another Neural Network looked at the works and wrote poetry based on what it saw through an image classifier. This is incorporated into a soundscape inside the app. Viewers will see light boxes and watch them come to life inside the app as the computer generated work is transformed and reinterpreted by human eyes and hands. The language is alien\, computer driven showing a collaborative effort between human and machine. This highly experimental work invites questions about computers creating art\, about how machines see humans and gender and idealized beauty. \nBoK2019 will generate questions that explore the dynamic between an organism and its surroundings\, by asking: How does art shift the way knowledge and thinking processes are acquired\, extended and distributed? How do cognitive theories offer ways to enact and change individual and collective ways of thinking? The aims of the first Body of Knowledge Art and Embodied Cognition Conference\, which was held at UC IRVINE in 2016 were to “bring together an interdisciplinary group including cognitive scientists\, neuroscientists\, philosophers of mind\, physiologists\, psychologists\, philosophers\, anthropologists\, computer scientists\, artists and designers to explore emerging cognitive neuroscience and theories of embodied cognition.”
